Xiaomi 14 CIVI First Impressions: A Leica-ble contender in the sub-₹50,000 segment
The Xiaomi 14 CIVI has made a stylish entrance into the Indian smartphone market, promising a premium experience without the premium price tag — it is priced at ₹47,999. This is the first time Xiaomi is bringing the CIVI series to India. My initial impressions of this device are mainly positive, with its sleek design, impressive camera setup — co-engineered with Leica — and robust performance standing out.

Design and Build

The Xiaomi 14 CIVI is a head-turner. Its slim profile (7.4mm) and lightweight build (177g) make it incredibly comfortable to hold and use. The phone feels premium thanks to its metal frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. While it lacks official water resistance, it does offer dust and splash resistance, which is a welcome addition.

Display

The 6.55-inch AMOLED display is vibrant and sharp, with a 120Hz refresh rate ensuring smooth scrolling and animations. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, making it an excellent device for consuming media. The 3000nits peak brightness ensures good visibility even in bright sunlight.

Performance

Powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI delivers flagship-level performance. It handles multitasking and demanding games with ease. The chip also significantly improves AI performance, translating to better camera capabilities and overall user experience.

Camera

The camera setup is one of the main highlights of the Xiaomi 14 CIVI. It features a triple rear camera system with two 50MP sensors (primary and telephoto) and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. The initial results are promising, with good detail, dynamic range, and colour reproduction. The dual 32MP front-facing cameras should also please selfie enthusiasts.

Battery

The 4700mAh battery and the power-efficient Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip should provide good battery life. The 67W fast charging support is also a nice touch, allowing you to top up the battery when needed quickly.

Software

The Xiaomi 14 CIVI runs on HyperOS, based on Android 14. HyperOS is known for its customisation options, additional features and clean design, but it also has some bloatware. Xiaomi has promised to reduce the amount of pre-installed apps, but you'll have to wait for the full review to see how well they've delivered on that promise.

Initial Verdict

The Xiaomi 14 CIVI is becoming a strong contender in the sub-₹50,000 segment. It offers a compelling package of premium design, powerful performance, and impressive camera capabilities. If Xiaomi can deliver on its promise of improved software and good battery life, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI could be a real winner. Stay tuned for the full review
