Tata Punch.ev and Nexon.ev earn five-star safety ratings from BNCAP

The Tata Nexon.ev scored 29.86 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection, receiving a perfect five-star rating. Similarly, the Tata Punch.ev also received a five-star rating from BNCAP.

Tata Punch.ev and Nexon.ev earn five-star safety ratings from BNCAP
The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) has awarded five-star ratings to Tata Motors' electric vehicles, the Tata Punch.ev and the Nexon.ev, in its latest round of crash tests. These results, announced in early 2024, mark the first safety ratings for Tata’s electric SUVs from BNCAP. Previously, BNCAP had tested Tata's Harrier and Safari SUVs.

The Tata Nexon.ev scored 29.86 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection, receiving a perfect five-star rating. It earned 14.26 points out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 15.60 points in the side movable deformable barrier test.

For child occupant protection, the Nexon.ev achieved a dynamic score of 23.95 out of 24, a CRS installation score of 12 out of 12, and 9 out of 13 for vehicle assessment. The tests were conducted in May 2024, and the results apply to both the Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) versions.



The Nexon.ev is priced from 14.49 lakh to 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom), competing with the Mahindra XUV400 and offering a more affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV.

Tata Punch.ev

Similarly, the Tata Punch.ev also received a five-star rating from BNCAP. It scored 31.46 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection, with 14.26 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 15.60 points in the side movable deformable barrier test.

For child occupant protection, it scored 45 out of 49 points, including 23.95 out of 24 in dynamic tests, 12 out of 12 in CRS installation, and 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. The tests for the Punch.ev were conducted in April 2024, and the results cover all variants of the model.



The Punch EV is priced from 10.99 lakh to 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and serves as an alternative to the Citroën eC3 and Tata Tiago.

Both the Tata Punch.ev and Nexon.ev come with an extensive list of standard safety features, including electronic stability control and six airbags. The Punch.ev offers two battery options: a 25kWh battery with a 315km range and a 35kWh battery with a 421km range. It also provides charging options such as a 3.3kW wall box charger and a 7.2kW fast charger.

The main difference between Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP is the maximum score for adult occupant protection: 32 points under Bharat NCAP compared to 34 points under Global NCAP. Other crash test protocols and rating assignments are quite similar.
