India beat USA by 7 wickets in their third match of T20 World Cup 2024 at New York's Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, June 12.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first.
Indian pacers once again brought their A game forward as they were pivotal in restricting USA to just 110/8 in 20 overs.
Arshdeep Singh picked 4 wickets. The left-arm pacer became only the second bowler after Rubel Trumpelmann to pick a wicket off the first delivery of a T20I match. Arshdeep trapped Shayan Jahangir in front of the wickets to create the record.
Arshdeep was backed by Hardik Pandya who claimed 2 wickets and Axar Patel had one scalp to his name.
India's chase was off to a shaky start as USA's in-form pacer Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed Virat Kohli for a golden duck in the first over of the Indian innings. Netravalkar then removed Rohit as India were left reeling at 10/2.
Rishabh Pant played a steady knock of 18 in 20 balls before he was clean bowled by Ali Khan.
Pant's dismissal brought together Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube in the middle. The two batters started slowly but did not lose their wicket. Suryakumar and Dube completed 50-run partnership and SKY remained unbeaten on fifty as India finally reached home in 18.2 overs.
It was India's third successive win in this World Cup. India began their campaign in the World Cup with a 8-wicket win over Ireland and backed that with a 6-run win over rivals Pakistan.
With 3 wins from 3 matches, India move to the top of the Group A points table. India also became first team from Group A and third team after South Africa and Australia to qualify for the Super 8 stage.
