Sunny Deol announces 'Border 2' on cult classic's 27th anniversary
On this day in 1997, India's biggest war film -- JP Dutta's Border -- hit the screens across the country. As the cult classic turned 27 on Thursday, veteran actor Sunny Deol took the opportunity to announce the upcoming film Border 2.

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 will be co-produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta.

Sharing an announcement video on social media site X, Sunny Deol wrote, "Ek fauji apne 27 saal purane waade ko pura karne, aa raha hai phirse. India’s biggest war film, #Border2 Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta & Nidhi Dutta will be directed by Anurag Singh #TSeries #JPFilms"

The video describes Border as the country's ‘biggest war film’ and has the famous song Sandese Aate Hai by Roop Kumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam played in the background.

Anurag Singh has previously directed films like Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari, and Diljit Dosanjh's Punjab 1984
as well as the first two films of the popular Punjabi romantic comedy franchise Jatt & Juliet.

Border, which was released on June 13, 1997, was one of the biggest blockbusters of its time and featured an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, Rakhee, Pooja Bhatt, among several others. The 1997 film was based on the Battle of Longewala during the India-Pakistan War of 1971.

The makers are yet to make an official announcement regarding the premise of Border 2. Also, earlier this rumoured that actor Ayushmann Khurrana could be a part of the upcoming film.

However, his name has not been mentioned as part of the initial announcement.

The announcement of Border 2 comes after Gadar 2 -- a sequel to Sunny Deol's other cult classic Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released in 2001 -- took the box office by storm, minting over ₹600 crore worldwide, upon its release in theatres in August last year.

On the work front, Sunny Deol is also working on another film, titled Lahore 1947. Directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, the film also features Preity Zinta.
