Congress reaches out to women voters — ₹1 lakh every year, 50% reservation in Central govt jobs
The Congress party on Friday, March 5, released the manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha election to woo each section of voters. With a special focus on women voters, historically a significant vote bank, the party outlined several initiatives.

One of the flagship proposals is the Mahalakshmi scheme, designed to provide ₹1 lakh per year as an unconditional cash transfer to every impoverished Indian family. This financial assistance will be directly deposited into the bank account of the eldest woman in the household.

Additionally, the party pledges to increase the representation of women in state assemblies and Parliament, implementing one-third reservation for women in state assemblies by 2025 and in the Lok Sabha by the 2029 General Elections.

Addressing employment, the Congress promises to reserve 50% of central government jobs for women starting from 2025. Moreover, the party commits to elevating more women to prominent positions such as judges, government secretaries, senior police officers, legal officers, and directors on the boards of listed companies.

Recognising wage disparities faced by working women, Congress vows to enforce the principle of 'Same Work, Same Wages'. Furthermore, it pledges to double the Central government's contribution to the salaries of frontline health workers.

The party said in partnership with the state governments, the Centre will double the number of working women hostels in the country, with at least one Savitribai Phule Hostel in each district.

The Lok Sabha election will be held in seven phases and the voting will begin on April 19. The counting of votes is on June 4.
