Physics Wallah CEO Alakh Pandey moves Supreme Court over NEET UG 2024 grace marks
Alakh Pandey, the CEO of Physics Wallah, has taken the matter of grace marks awarded in the NEET UG 2024 examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to the Supreme Court. The allocation of grace marks to approximately 1,500 students has sparked controversy and raised questions about the transparency and fairness of the examination process.

Pandey asserts that the arbitrary nature of this allocation has been evidenced by the collection of signatures from around 20,000 students, indicating discrepancies in the distribution of marks, with approximately 70 to 80 marks seemingly awarded randomly.

The SC has taken cognisance of the matter, issuing notices to both the Centre and the NTA in response to a petition seeking the cancellation of NEET UG 2024 results, amid allegations of paper leaks. The bench of justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, while acknowledging the gravity of the situation, declined to halt the counselling process, adjourning the case until July 8.

Pandey and his legal counsel, Advocate J Sai Deepak have petitioned the court to establish an independent high-powered committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the NEET UG 2024 examination. Only through such an inquiry, they argue, can the complexities and irregularities undermining the exam's credibility be unearthed.

The petition filed on June 1 stems from a Bihar police investigation into alleged paper leaks, compounded by the revelation that 67 students scored a perfect 720, with six from the same examination centre, raising suspicions of foul play. Subsequent protests in Delhi and mounting pressure on the NTA have spotlighted the need for a comprehensive review of the examination process.

In response to these concerns, the Ministry of Education has constituted a four-member panel to review the allocation of grace marks, while stakeholders like Avijit Ghosh, vice-president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union, have called for an independent and transparent investigation to uphold the integrity of the entrance exam system.
