A day after Narendra Modi took the oath of office along with his council of ministers for a historic third term, the Prime Minister announced portfolios, allocating ministerial responsibilities to his colleagues with Cabinet and Ministers of State ranks, including those with independent charge.
In a clear signal of continuity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opted to retain key senior ministers—Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S Jaishankar—to lead the Home, Defence, Finance, and External Affairs ministries, respectively. These four ministers constitute the vital Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by the Prime Minister himself.

Mumbaikars brace for heavy rainfall and thunderstorm — check if your area is under high alert
In an update on Mumbai rains, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the city is very likely to receive heavy rainfall and gusty winds on June 11.
“Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds ( 50-60kmph) at isolated places are very likely,” the weather body has said. According to Nowcast, Mumbai IMD issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai and the rest of the Konkan belt for early morning hours. For the rest of the day, the alert category is yellow (to watch).

Singapore Airlines offers $25,000 compensation for severe turbulence causing death and injuries
Singapore Airlines has decided to pay up to $25,000 to passengers who were on the May 21 flight from London, which nosedived over 6,000 feet within three minutes.
The $25,000 would be an advance payment for those who need long-term medical care. The turbulence and sharp descent caused multiple injuries and the death of a 73-year-old. The airline reiterated an apology along with the promise to compensate passengers. "..we have sent out the offers of compensation to the passengers on 10 June 2024," the airline in a statement posted on Facebook, a social media platform.

HDFC Mutual Fund has announced the resumption of subscriptions for the HDFC Nifty Realty Index Fund, effective June 11. Investors can now make lump sum and additional purchases, switch-ins, and new registrations for systematic transactions, including Systematic Investment Plan (SIP), Systematic Transfer Plan (STP), and Transfer of Income Distribution cum Capital Withdrawal Plan (TIP). These transactions will be subject to the minimum amounts specified in the scheme's information document.

Schengen Visa Fees Hike: New costs for travellers starting June 11 — All you need to know
Travellers to Schengen States will soon face increased fees. The European Commission has announced a 12% increase in the cost of short-stay Schengen visas (visa type C), effective worldwide on June 11, 2024. The new fee for adults will be 90 euros, up from 80 euros, while the fee for children aged 6 to 12 years will rise from 40 euros to 45 euros. Children under six will still receive their visas for free.
A Schengen visa is a permit for non-EU nationals to visit a country in the Schengen area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This visa allows travel to any Schengen State during the visa's validity.However, it does not permit stays longer than 90 days, nor does it allow for employment or business activities.

"Avocados have been traditionally grown in India, especially in the western ghats of South India for over 20 years but there were no commercial varieties or plantations. In the last few years with increased awareness for avocados, the avocado ecosystem is evolving now,” said Ajay TG of Westfalia fruit.
