In an update on Mumbai rains, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the city is very likely to receive heavy rainfall and gusty winds on June 11.



“Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds ( 50-60kmph) at isolated places are very likely,” the weather body has said.

According to Nowcast, Mumbai IMD issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai and the rest of the Konkan belt for early morning hours. For the rest of the day, the alert category is yellow (to watch).

It also pointed to IMD warning for the region that suggest there will be moderate thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed between 41-61 kmph over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, high tide is expected at 3.43 pm, the weather body said.

In a warning for fishermen, the weather body has stated that squally weather with wind speed 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off North Maharashtra coast.

“Fishermen are advised not to venture off and along the North Maharashtra coast,” it said.
Earlier on June 11, Mumbai witnessed heavy rains after 7pm, while it got 50 millimetres of rain in a 24-hour period that ended in the morning, officials said. There were no reports of major water-logging due to heavy rains in the evening, the official added.

As per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials, Raoli Camp, B Nadkarni Park and fire station localities in Wadala received 35 mm, 27 mm and 24 mm rain, respectively, while the figures were 21 mm and 18 mm for Britannia storm water station at Reay Road and Worli fire station area, respectively, between 7pm and 9pm.

Monsoon arrived in Mumbai on Sunday, two days ahead of the normal schedule, due to favourable conditions along the Maharashtra coast, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
