Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was on Wednesday arrested in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Renuka Swamy, whose body was found in Bengaluru on June 9.
Thoogudeepa was arrested during a film shoot in Mysore early on Tuesday morning and escorted by police to Bengaluru for further questioning.
The police were alerted when residents saw stray dogs pulling a body out of a drain. Upon inspection, the police found signs of injury on his body.
The investigation into Renuka Swamy's murder has uncovered disturbing details linking the crime to alleged online harassment.

According to reports, Swamy, who was from the district headquarters town of Chitradurga and worked at a pharmacy company, allegedly sent ‘objectionable messages’ on social media directed at Pavithra Gowda, a co-star and rumoured girlfriend of Thoogudeepa.
Statement by Bengaluru police
Bengaluru police chief B Dayanand said, “The 33-year-old man, who has been murdered, has been identified as Renuka Swamy. At first glance, it seems that the deceased had sent objectionable messages to Darshan's girlfriend.”
This discovery has led to the arrest of 13 people thus far, including Thoogudeepa and Pavithra Gowda herself.
What the Karnataka Home Minister said
In response to the recent events, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara addressed reporters explaining that Darshan Thoogudeepa was brought in for questioning after his name “came up during the investigation”.
Parameshwara added that conclusions about Thoogudeepa's involvement can only be drawn after the investigation is complete and “nothing can be said about whether he is involved or not” until then.
“What is the reason for the murder? Why has his name come? All those things will be known only after the investigation. So, at this point, nothing else can be said,” the Home Minister stated.
