IndiGo reports record ₹8,172-crore profit for FY24, sees 6th straight profitable quarter

IndiGo Q4 Results | InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the parent company of IndiGo, announced a record-breaking profit of ₹8,172 crore for the fiscal year 2024 on Thursday (May 23). The company also reported a net profit of ₹1,894 crore for the fourth quarter, marking its sixth consecutive quarter of profitability.




In the corresponding quarter, InterGlobe Aviation posted a net profit of ₹919.2 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing.  The company's revenue from operations increased 26% to ₹17,825.3 crore against ₹14,160.6 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal.

At the operating level, EBITDAR jumped 48.7% to ₹4.412.3 crore in the fourth quarter of this fiscal over ₹2,966.5 crore in the year-ago period.

The EBITDAR margin stood at 24.8% in the reporting quarter versus 20.9% in the corresponding period in the previous fiscal. EBITDAR is earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortisation, and restructuring or rent costs.

Q4 numbers


The airline's capacity increased by 14.4% to 34.8 billion available seat kilometres. Correspondingly, the number of passengers carried rose 14% to 26.7 million. IndiGo saw a 7% rise in yield to ₹5.19, coupled with an improved load factor, which grew by 2.1 percentage points to 86.3%.

On the cost side, IndiGo achieved a notable reduction in its fuel cost per available seat kilometre (CASK), which decreased by 6.9% to ₹1.72. However, the CASK excluding fuel saw an increase of 14.7% at ₹2.90.

FY24


The airline's capacity increased by 21.8% to 139.3 billion available seat kilometres. Passenger numbers also saw a substantial rise, increasing by 24.7% to 106.7 million. Despite a slight 1% decrease in yield at ₹5.08, IndiGo managed to improve its load factor by 3.8 percentage points to 85.9%.

Revenue from operations surged by 26.6% to ₹68,904.3 crore.  On the cost management front, IndiGo achieved a remarkable reduction in its fuel CASK, which decreased by 17% to ₹1.72.

Additionally, the CASK excluding fuel also decreased by 3.6% to ₹2.66. IndiGo's EBITDAR amounted to ₹17,544.7 crore, translating to a 25.5% EBITDAR margin. This is a substantial improvement over the previous year's EBITDAR of ₹7,311.6 crore with a 13.4% margin.

IndiGo had a total cash balance of ₹34,737.5 crore comprising ₹20,823 crore of free cash and ₹13,914.5 crore of restricted cash. The basic earnings per share stood at ₹211.84. As of March 31, 2024, the company has a fleet of 367 aircraft, including 31 A320 CEOs, 192 A320 NEOs, 94 A321 NEOs, 45 ATRs, 3 A321 freighters and 2 B777 (damp lease) — a net increase of nine passenger aircraft during the quarter.

The results came after the close of the market hours. Shares of Interglobe Aviation Ltd ended at ₹4,414.90, up by ₹55.35, or 1.27%, on the BSE.
