After it emerged that the BJP would not able to meet its target of securing 370 Lok Sabha seats by itself, the party’s leaders opened discussions with the leaders of its allies on government formation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to engage with Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu, while Amit Shah spoke to Bihar’s Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi.The Congress too will engage in discussions with JD(U) chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu -- both erstwhile allies -- to explore options for government formation, senior leaders of the party stated in a presser.
With the BJP heading towards a victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive at the BJP headquarters to meet party leaders and workers, sources said. BJP workers have already begun gathering at the headquarters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s coalition is leading in a majority of seats in India’s general election, according to partial figures, but faces a stronger-than-expected challenge from the opposition. The NDA is leading on more than 290 seats but the BJP is short of the majority mark. However, the INDIA bloc’s tally is at 231 seats as the counting of votes is still underway.
Defying exit poll predictions, the INDIA bloc put up a splendid performance in the Hindi belt and the southern states to bring down the NDA’s number under 300.
