More than 160 million people across five states—Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram—went to the polls between November 7 and 30 to elect the leaders to represent the 679 constituencies.
The results of the assembly elections, on December 3 and 4 , in these five states hold significance, coming as they are just months ahead of the bigger Parliamentary election in about six months.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is the ruling party at the centre, along with its allies, is a key contender in each of these states. While the Lok Sabha election results do not always mirror the results in a state election, they are a good gauge for the prevailing voter sentiment.
