Volvo Car India celebrates World Environment Day with delivery of 1,000th EV

The Swedish luxury car manufacturer’s compact electric SUV, the XC40 Recharge was its first electric model to be delivered in the country. The company also plans to launch one new electric vehicle every year and aims to convert its entire portfolio to electric cars before 2030.

Luxury vehicle manufacturer Volvo Car India, on Wednesday, announced that it has delivered over 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) to its customers since entering the Indian EV market in November 2022.

The Swedish luxury car manufacturer’s compact electric SUV, the XC40 Recharge was its first electric model to be delivered in the country. Later the same model also became the company’s first locally assembled electric SUV in India.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, said in a company statement, “On the occasion of World Environment Day, we are happy to announce that Volvo Car India has delivered over 1,000 EVs.”

Volvo Car India surpasses 1000 EV deliveries.


Currently, the company offers three EV models in India: the XC40 Recharge, the C40 Recharge, and the single-motor XC40 Recharge.

Malhotra added, “This achievement is another milestone on our journey towards becoming an all-electric company by 2030.”

The company also plans to launch one new electric vehicle every year and aims to convert its entire portfolio to electric cars before 2030.

In 2023, Volvo Car India saw a growth of 31% in overall sales compared to 2022. The pure electric models, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, accounted for 28% of the total sales.

Malhotra further stated that the company also plans to prioritise the use of recyclable materials in their electric cars and aims to incorporate 25% recycled and bio-based content in their new car models by 2025.
