The reigns of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry have been handed over to Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu in Modi Cabinet 3.0. Naidu will be officially taking over as the 34th Union Civil Aviation Minister of India on June 13.

Naidu who belongs to the Telugu Desam Party, is the youngest union cabinet minister of India. He recently won his third consecutive Lok Sabha term from Srikakulam Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking exclusively to CNBC-TV18, Naidu said, "The Civil Aviation Ministry is a big responsibility. My priority would be to do justice and work for the common man. I will work on the big-ticket projects pending in Andhra Pradesh in the last 5 years. The issues of the common man will be at the core. I will do review meetings and work on the 100-day action plan."

When asked how he plans to help the common man, Naidu said after it was announced he will become the Aviation Minister, he received major feedback on ticket prices as a big concern. He said, "The biggest concern is with ticket prices. I will review the situation with high ticket prices. Will take decisions for the ease of the common man."

Another key issue that Naidu is expected to work on is the ratification of the Cape Town Convention Bill. This bill is currently a major bond of contention between the global aircraft lessors and airlines in India. It is expected that the new Parliament will pass this bill which is likely to bring relief and more trust to aircraft lessors globally.

Reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) will likely be another key priority for the minister. Around 30 states are charging VAT on ATF between 1-5%, while 5 big states are charging VAT between 20-40%.

Bringing ATF in the range of 1-5% category is expected to ease air ticket prices as well. Privatisation of at least 20 more airports and increasing the total number of airports to 200 could be the other key areas of priority for Civil Aviation Minister Naidu.
