American musician and actor Kevin Jonas, on Wednesday, shared that he recently got a basal cell carcinoma removed from his hairline.
According to the United States National Library of Medicine, basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most prevalent type of skin cancer and the most frequently occurring form of all malignancies.
The Jonas Brothers band member took to Instagram and posted the video as a reminder to get moles checked.
In the video, Jonas is seen lying down, holding the camera above his face. “Today I am getting a basal-cell carcinoma removed from my head,” he said. “Yes, that is an actual little skin cancer guy that started to grow, and now I have to get surgery to remove it.”
Following his surgery, he shared his car journey back home. Sporting a band-aid on his forehead, concealing the surgery scar, he earnestly urged his followers to prioritise their health and undergo regular mole check-ups. “Make sure to get those moles checked, people!” he added.
Several fans shared their best wishes for the pop star in the comment section, including the Skin Cancer Foundation.
The organisation suggests that you should regularly check areas of your skin that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, ears, neck, scalp, chest, shoulders, and back, as BCCs can manifest anywhere on the body.
Look out for multiple warning signs, including persistent sores that may bleed or crust, reddish patches that itch or cause discomfort, shiny bumps or nodules that vary in colour, and small pink growths with raised edges. Additionally, be wary of scar-like areas that appear white, yellow, or waxy, as these may indicate invasive BCCs.
